The Home Place Inn & Restaurant, Kensington, Prince Edward Island
This historic home retains much of the original ambiance through thoughtful renovations, hardwood floors and period furnishings. Many of the family's original furnishings, antiques, photographs and oil paintings, painted by Orr family descendents, hang proudly on our walls.
This historic home was built in 1915 by local merchant Parmenus Orr and retains much of the original ambiance through thoughtful renovations, hardwood floors and period furnishings. Many of the family's original furnishings, antiques, photographs and oil paintings, painted by Orr family descendents, hang proudly on our walls. A large verandah on the front of the house is available for "old fashion" relaxing.
In 1849, John Orr set sail from Charlottetown Harbour on board the Brig Fanny to seek his fortune in the California gold fields. His interesting account of the voyage is on display and a mural of the Brig Fanny graces the dining room wall.
The Home Place has preserved the rich history of the Orr family and we cordially invite you to share this history and experience our comforatble home. We treat our guests as we like to be treated.
We are ideally located on Route 6 in Kensington, just 25 km from Cavendish and PEI's world famous north shore beaches. This area is commonly referred to as "Anne's Land" by PEI Tourism and tourist brochures.
Guests can travel the area to explore Lucy Maude Montgomery's birthplace and her homestead, or tour the period set of the television program Emily of New Moon. The Kensington Train Station houses local and visitor information, historical displays and a Saturday Farmers Market. St. Mary's Church in Indian River hosts many concerts.
Our licenced restaurant provides only the highest quality food and service and offers a dining area which seats approximately 45 people. Enjoy home cooking at its best. The aroma of fresh made rolls is just the beginning to your dining experience. Not to be missed are our Pan-fried Malpeque Oysters. Scrumptious desserts are always fresh, and made on the premise.
