I must say it was the strangest and possibly the most disturbing hotel check in I have experienced. If I had not been on the road for 15 hours I would have certainly moved on to another hotel.

The lady at the desk, while friendly, basically interrogated me as to why I had a Victoria address (I was moving into Victoria, had not taken possession of my new residence), stating that their policy was not to take locals. The stated logic was that if you have a place in town you should not be staying at a hotel. So I found myself obliged to outline my personal situation and she assessed it to see if it met her standards. Humiliating.

When I asked if this was perhaps a little out of line, she went on to say words to the effect of: What if we let a woman stay here who was having trouble with her husband - we would risk having a problem later. So I do not allow any local people to stay here, I would not allow her to stay. Bravo, sister. Does the word 'inhumane' mean anything to you?

Troubling. I have no doubt that her behavior is due to having seen everything over the years. However, I am not inclined to submit to an interrogation when checking into a hotel - nor do I respect the cold blooded attitude. It's the HOSPITALITY industry for crying out loud!

But if you're inclined to stay, the rooms are fairly clean, albeit dated to the mid-70s.
