Dueck's Cedar Chalet, Boissevain, Manitoba

With more than 150,000 flowers, these gardens were established in 1932 as a symbol of goodwill between Canada and its southern neighbours, and they are still very popular today. Bordering Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, and straddling the borders of Manitoba and North Dakota, the site features a picnic area, nature trails, a campground, a first-rate interpretive center depicting the history of the gardens, and a floral clock. Music and sports camps are held here in the summers.

Nearby Boissevain boasts attractive murals on its buildings, with pamphlets outlining each mural on a self-guided walking tour. The Beckoning Hill Museum outlines the development of this small community, with household artifacts, mementos from both World Wars, as well as photos. The annual Turtle Derby features local turtles collected from local lakes, and draws crowds from all over the country. The turtles are returned to their natural habitat at the end of the racing day each year!
