Maison Monticello Bed & Breakfast, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
Welcome... Bienvenue... Benvenuti... Bienvenidos..... to our Canadian Monticello! Named for American president Thomas Jefferson's Virginia home, Monticello, because of its eclectic decor and charm.
Our guests are invited to enjoy our fireplace, lounge, library, deck, veranda, and gardens. Bicycles are provided free of charge. Refreshments are available at any time. Smoke-free, air-conditioned, and pet-free, our modern New England-style, home is located minutes from the center of town, bicycle trails, the Shaw Festival, local wineries, Lake Ontario and the Niagara Parkway, and is a delightful respite from the bustle of the local attractions. We are a 20-minute drive from Niagara Falls, along the scenic Niagara Parkway. We are easily accessible from the QEW or New York State's I-90.
Teachers of English, French, Italian, and the sciences, your hosts, Maria and Leon Martin, have decorated their home to reflect their travels to Europe and the Orient, as well as their time spent living in Canada's North. Watercolour prints (by Canadian artist Brian Middleton), international posters, handcrafted furniture, floral and Native touches will greet you in every room. If you ask, Leon will even regale you with stories of the Northwest Territories, or his current passion, our "gardens-in-progress" (designed by renowned Canadian landscape architect, Wayne Renaud), which will provide the perfect backdrop for your outdoor breakfast, read, or nap.
Monticello is a modern New England-style home decorated with warmth and charm. Guests will enjoy the privacy of their own Guest Floor. Our Guest Floor offers two full bedrooms, complete with Queen bed, TV/VCR, guest fridge and telephone. Le grand jardin offers, as well, a sitting area and ensuite 3-piece bathroom, while le petit jardin offers a full 4-piece bathroom adjacent to the room. On rainy days you may wish to snuggle up under the comfy duvets with a good movie from the large selection we offer in each room. The Guest Floor also features a third cosy room with a twin bed, desk and chair for that third guest travelling with you, or for a child, and is priced accordingly. Guests may relax in our main floor library which boasts over 1000 books of all genres, and various languages, as well as a variety of magazines and newspapers.
